Terms & Conditions

1 The contract

Is between the Guest and Julian Knowles, the owner of 6 Glasnakille (also known as The Stone Cottage, Skye), Nr Elgol, Isle of Skye IV49 9BQ.

2. Booking & Payment.

A firm booking is accepted following confirmation of availability and receipt of a refundable deposit (£150) plus £150 for each rental week. The balance of the hire charge shall be payable 6 weeks before the commencement of the letting period. If the balance is not received by this date then the Owner will be entitled to re-let for the period and the deposit will be forfeited by the Guest. For all bookings made less than 6 weeks in advance, full payment is required at time of booking. Acceptable methods of payment are:

Direct transfer to UK bank account (details will be provided on booking).

Once the booking is confirmed by the Owner the Guest is responsible for the full hire charge.

For guests who pay in Euros, the refundable deposit will be returned at that day’s Sterling/Euro exchange rate (Midland bank foreign desk) minus a charge of £6 (the bank charge which will be passed on).

For guests paying in Sterling from a Euro account, the deposit will be returned minus a charge of £6 (the bank charge which will be passed on).

3. Period of Hire

Lettings commence at 3pm on the day of arrival and ends at 10am on the day of departure. Lets are on a weekly basis (Saturday to Saturday except at Christmas and New Year) and the maximum period of let is 3 weeks. The house is let for holiday purposes only and only to the persons named on the booking form.

4. Cancellations

Should a cancellation be made by the Guest, the Owner will seek to re-let the property for the period of hire. If successful in doing so, a full refund will be made, if not the deposit will be forfeited by the Guest. If cancellation occurs less than 6 weeks prior to hire and the Owner is unable to re-let for the period, then the entire hire fee will be forfeited by the Guest.

5. Availability

If 6 Glasnakille cannot be made available for the period booked due to events beyond the Owner’s control and the Owner is forced to cancel the booking, the whole of the hire charge will be refunded and the Guest will have no further claim against the Owner. Guests are strongly advised to take out a Holiday Cancellation Insurance Policy.

6. Services.

Use of electricity, firewood, sheets, duvets and towels are all included in the weekly tariffs.

7. Number of Persons using the property

The number of persons occupying the properties should not exceed four. Subletting is strictly prohibited.

8. Complaints & Problems

Should there be any problem or cause for complaint during or after a period of letting, please contact me as soon as possible and I will attempt to fix the problem.

9. Breakage or Damage

For the benefit of the next guests staying in the cottage, please advise me of any breakage or damage that occurs during your stay. I don’t generally charge for breakages or damage which occur as a result of normal use (apart from more expensive items), but reserve the right to forfeit your deposit and demand further payment to cover the cost of damage or breakages which occur as a result of reckless, negligent or deliberate misuse.

10. Care of Property

The Client shall take reasonable and proper care of the property, its furniture, pictures, fittings and effects in or on the property and leave them in the same clean and tidy condition and state of repair at the end of the letting period as at the beginning.

11. Pets.

Unfortunately, we do not allow dogs or any other pets in the house.

12. Smoking

Is not permitted anywhere within the house.

13. Liability

The Owners shall have no liability for any death, personal injury, damage or loss of personal property unless this results from our own negligence.

14. Right of Entry

We reserve the right of entry to the property at all reasonable times for the purposes of inspection or to carry out necessary repairs or maintenance.

15. Injury, Loss or Damage.

The use of the property and its equipment is entirely at the Guest’s risk and no responsibility can be accepted by the Owner for injury to the Guest or a member of his or her party, not for injury loss or damage to their belongings, including motor vehicles. This includes for Covid-19 infection (where we take extra efforts to reduce the possibility of transmission). Guest’s Responsibility – The Guest is responsible for the property and its contents which should be left clean at the end of the holiday, and breakages, damage or faults reported to the Owners.

16. Exchange rates.

The owner might occasionally invite the guest to pay directly in Euros (assuming the exchange rate is favourable) however it should be noted that the default currency is GBP Sterling. Any charges to send money to a foreign bank account will be paid by the guest.

17. Personal data and GDPR compliance. 

By enquiring to Stone Cottage Skye, you consent to have your data used and processed by Julian Knowles (data officer) for the purposes of managing your booking, processing your payment and supporting you during your stay. Your data will never be sold on or given to any third parties. Your data will be retained for record keeping purposes only.
